Enhanced guide on replacing thermal paste on 2017 MacBook Pro 15-inch

It’s been a year since my 2017 MacBook Pro gone out of warranty and I was getting headlines in the bottom of the display, and also left speaker busted. According to Apple Store Union Square San Francisco, replacing monitor is one way to fix the heatlines but it cost me like $600 + tax so I decided to go with repair guides I found on ifixit.com.

Guides I used on iFixit:

It did the job at least for me, but there is no written instructions or the list of screws and parts, and a video showing the entire process including cleaning fans. Overall they are not very detailed. So I decided to leave enhanced guide including prep and followup process for folks new to DIY repair.

In this article, we will explore the process and steps in the detail on replacing thermal pate on 2017 MacBook Pro 15-inch.

  1. Turn off auto boot First, I turned auto boot off to avoid accidental boot while I’m inside.
  1. Follow steps in the guide on iFixit You will need to get tools, thermal paste kit, and anti-static gloves and wristband. I bought them from iFixt. Shipping may take what it takes so enjoy time-lapse from my re-done session in the mean time.
